Who We Support

People do not arrive looking for an organisation chart. They arrive looking for support, answers, access, or a way to help. APD exists to meet that reality by working with people with physical disabilities, their families, employers, and the wider community in practical, grounded ways.

What We Do in the Real World

APD’s work includes social work support, home-based care, wheelchair rental, recruitment support, and Barrier Breakers initiatives that help challenge exclusion and build more inclusive communities.

Some of this support happens in homes, some in workplaces, and some through partnerships, training, and public awareness. What matters is that the work stays practical, relevant, and connected to everyday life.

"We believe people with physical disabilities should be able to live with greater independence, navigate barriers with stronger support, and participate more fully in the life of their communities."

What Guides Our Work

APD’s work is guided by a belief in dignity, access, participation, and practical support.

A New Chapter in Leadership

APD is now led by Director Noluthando Mbonane, whose appointment marks an important new chapter in the organisation’s ongoing work. Following a recent leadership transition, she has stepped into the role with clarity, compassion, and a strong commitment to continuity of care and community support.

A Brief Legacy

APD’s roots go back to 1934. That history matters, not because the past should speak louder than the present, but because it reflects decades of practical work, learning, and commitment. Over time, the organisation has evolved, but its focus remains clear: helping remove barriers and expand opportunity for people with physical disabilities and their families.
